Today I read elsewhere, and subsequently here, that Vista has some sort of improved DPI upscaling function that avoids the problems/pitfalls of changing settings within XP.

Does this mean this mean buying laptops with high DPI screens and therefore small text etc will no longer be much of an issue?

actually on a 1405 at 1440x900 i had to decrease the font size in vista along with the icon size they just seemed too big but they were at 96 dpi and they were clear as can be mickeysoft has greatly improved clear type in vista, to the point that you can decrease the fonts and still read em with tired bloodshot eyes without strain

No worries..but now I'm less concerned about buying any machine with a 125+ DPI screen.

I made the mild mistake of buying a 15" Tosh with a 1600x1200 some years back and have been paying for it in terms of eyesight since.
