Hi all. My sister got her Del Studio 1555 in the mail today. I set up everything for her, followed some of the advice in the Vista tweak guide, etc.

However, about an hour later she started having problems with our wireless connection. It would frequently disconnect/reconnect and when it was "working" it was working at abnormally slow speeds. For example notebookreview would probably take up to 2 minutes to load.

When I plug the ethernet cable into her laptop, however, the speeds are fine.

I'm afraid this problem is because she installed the newest version of AIM. I did some researching and found that there have been horror stories as far as AIM+Vista goes.

Does anyone have any solutions? I have fully uninstalled AIM and the wireless is still abysmal. I'm hoping that I won't have to reformat/reinstall windows.

    Thanks

AIM and Vista work fine. Is your internet still slow after uninstalling AIM?

I'm using the latest AIM (6.9) on Vista Business SP1 just fine.

Try speedtest.net and report the findings.

yes it's still slow after uninstalling AIM. i ran something similar to speedtest and it was really bad, my DL speed was maxing at 8 kbps or something ridiculous.

the laptop has an intel 5100 wireless card. the issue might be my router, which is a linksys wireless-b. i'm horrible in terms of networking problems, but from reading some other threads i think it might be that i have to switch the card from N to a/g. not exactly sure.

    any insight on this?
