I've been setting up a laptop that came with Windows Vista Premium (HP dv6324us) and noticed that a few seconds after windows loads, the computer screen will all of a sudden go black and then back to the desktop. I'm pretty sure that this wasn't happening before and was wondering if anyone might know the cause and how to fix it. Thanks! :)

It should just be the Nvidia graphics driver loading and then "refreshing" your screen. If the system is busy loading other apps and drivers at the same time it can go blank for a moment while it does that.

You can try updating Nvidia drivers, to see if other drivers load faster... but really its not a big deal... assuming it only happens for a moment.

Just got off the phone with HP tech support.. took 54 min. but finally figured out what the problem seems to be. The tech had me create a new login account for vista and that seems to have fixed it (at least on that account).

So now I have to figure out how to transfer all my installed programs as well as files over to this new account and erase the old administrator account. Do you guys know how to go about doing that?

    Thanks! :)

Yep, my dv6119us does it too. It's probably, just like JadedRaverLA said, the Nvidia graphics loading up. Most certainly not worth going through all the trouble of setting up a new account and transferring your programs and files, imo. It might even go away itself once Nvidia drivers improve.
