It looks like Notebook Hardware Control has a few problems with Vista SP1.

After installing SP1, I am unable to set the CPU speed (on the CPU Speed tab, in the Processor speed management section)to max performace, it will only set it to Battery optimized, and won't let me change the min/max processor state to anything above 5%. Attempting to change it to a value above 5% results in an error "Error on changing the processor state." NHC also seems to have an issue with staying running for any length of time, after about 15 minutes or so, it just disappears from the system tray.

This is on an Asus V1S, in case it turns out to make a difference.

I'm not sure if its a display issue, or if its actually effecting performance. It doesn't SEEM to be effecting performace.

NHC had issues with Vista before SP1 even came out. NHC is great for XP

    We use RMclock now...

I read reinstalling drivers to somethings with SP1 will straited things out. I read it on Microsofts SP1 we page, just a fyi, it also tells which componets had problems.

As flipfire already mentioned, NHC had some serious issues with Vista even before SP1. You were able to run it in 32 bit Vista, but a lot of features didn't work properly (like dynamic switching and CPU settings when you had a santa rosa+c2d combo).

By all means, switch to something else, a good combo is rmclock and hdparm. Have fun

I've loaded rmclock, and it appears that I am going to have to do some pretty hefty research, just to figure out all the settings that are available to me.

I can't seem to find a users manual, or any sort of help file, so any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Firstly it has to detect your CPU and make sure you tick 'Mobile' then hit apply and restart
