I got this error message, searched in google, did what was suggested by disabling the automatic update service, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder, then reenabling the Automatic Update Service but no luck.

I have all applications off including my antivirus :(

    What can I do?

This thread is not to discuss how I got SP1, it is to try and help me install it as others have successfully installed it.

    Yes he did.

A simple answer to his question would have been fine too. You might be hard-pressed to find some help because only a small handful of people have installed SP1 so far via the registry hack.

Ok after a search on google it appears that the problem is I installed Vista using vLite. So I can never update to SP1 :( Stupid crap

Now I have to format and reconfigure my laptop from scratch to install SP1 :(

I didn't know that would affect the installation of SP1. Good to know and thanks for finding out.

Neither did I dude. I am shocked to find this out. Seems vLite cuts some system files out when installing which affects the installation of SP1! Although my system was perfect otherwise! I'm sure it's some stupid Microsoft strategy.

There is one thing you MIGHT want to try before you resort to that, a system repair. Booting from a Vista Install DVD would let you try to repair. I don't know it will find the "missing bits" needed for the SP1 install, but it is worth a shot.

I'm running the SFC /scannow command in DOS right now. Let's see if that fixes the needed missing system files.

I was trying to remember that command when I posted before but for the life of me, I could not recall it. Did you try the other method from the link I provided? Or do you not have a full install DVD available.

Yeah, this sucks for all the folks who used vlite. I hope the vLite folks get wind of this so they can update their app.

I have the full install DVD off-course that's how I used vLite in the first place ;)

But what i'm saying is that I spent alot of time integrating all my notebook drivers into vLite and customizing the settings.

Anod most annoying of all, is that I have to reconfigure all the power settings for my laptop for all profiles again. that takes about 15 minutes of hard work :S
