Did you try again? If it still comes up with the error, consider allocating more space to the partition. Search for GPartEd, a free Linux based partition editor that allows you to resize partitions and keep your data in place.

If that doesn't work, it could be the CD.

i JUST made the partition. Its 18 gb which i still is plentiful for vista. I used Gpartd live CD. I tried the install 3 times now. It stops at 37%.

Eh...where did you get the Vista CD's? I'd take em back in to the retailer...otherwise just call MS and they'll send you new disks, but it'll take a little while.

that error code usually points to "not enough disk space"
hard to say, i used 19gb by mine vista partition and still have quite left, so that cannot be true
check ur install cds, could be some corrupted files

    cheers ...

The ISO image I got from the MS TAP program was 2.5 GB. So I'd imagine at least 4 CD's would be needed, if not 5. Try to resize your partition to 25GB and see if that solves any problems---the OS needs temporary buffer room for unpacking and moving things around during install inside of your 17GB partition you know.

MY DL was split into 4 cds. I just now tried to install using xp (instead of booting from the disks) and it went all the way to 99% of copying files then asked for CD5, but there is no CD5. I pressed ok 2 times and it just exited so iono what to do

    Wait you're missing a CD?

    ...

I don't know what to tell you dude, contact MS I guess.

EDIT: Actually, pop CD1 back in and see if that does anything. If not, read above line.

I get this same error when installing vista, except mine gets about 96% through or so, and on the fourth CD gives the same error message you mentioned.

I have tried burning a new 4'th CD (I downloaded this version of windows legally through my Schools MSDN alliance subscription) and I have tried the install twice...additionally the drive I am installing on I used vista itself to delete, format, and then install onto - and it has 300 gb free. Windows may be a memory hog depending on how you look at it....but I think that should be enough free space for it to install on :p.

Any ideas? I'd really like to get this computer up and running! Thanks for anyones help,
