    Hello,

Yesterday, I clean installed Vista Ultimate (x64) on my Dell XPS M1530. The process went relatively smoothly and I was able to install the OS.

Today, I attempted to go through and install a few programs (i.e. Firefox, Chrome, CCleaner, etc). I was able to successfully install CCleaner and SuperANTISpyware, but have encountered major problems when attempting to install anything else.

For example, I am able to download the Firefox installer, however, as soon as I attempt to launch it, I get the following warning:

    "Firefox has stopped working."

I get similar results when trying to install Avast! anti-virus, Google Chrome, etc. (I just can't seem to install them for whatever reason).

I am very frustrated and would REALLY appreciate any clues or suggestions as to how I can fix these problems.

    Thanks.

Are you signed on to an account with administrator privileges when trying to install these programs?

Doubt that this is the issue since OP has the same issue on some other apps as well.

What about disabling the SuperANTISpyware and try again?

    cheers ...

it might be DEP. im not too sure, coz i had such problems a long while ago. FF 32bit works fine in Vista X64. If i was you, i would simply reinstall Vista again. Doesn't take long anyways, around 45 mins only (ur lappy has higher specs, should install faster)

I'll try reinstalling, as disabling SuperANTISpyware did not remedy anything.

I'm starting to think it may be more serious (memory error possibly), as I have been randomly blue screening...

reinstall vista and try to find the 64bit versions if they are available, or MAYBE they need someupdates before installing them

    Run Command Prompt as Admin.
    Type-in,
    bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Then, you can use whatever 64bit and 32bit software.
To turn it on again, type-in,
    bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
