I just picked up a Sager laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit and 4gb of ram. I bought this power machine for running AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite and am finding out that i need to install a different version of AutoCAD than i normally do and that the Adobe Creative Suite is only "certified for 32-bit version". Am i going to have trouble with compatibility with other software on 64-bit?

Also, i was thinking of partitioning my 100gb system harddrive and installing the 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate. Is this a good idea?

For some reason, AutoCAD configured their installer to only work on a 32-bit system; even though it can run on a 64-bit operating system. Working around this inconvenience would mean getting your hands a little dirty.

EDIT: Also, wrt the Adobe software, I should add that most people should check that their software is compatible with a 64-bit OS before installing it.

    Thanks Bog.

I just noticed on the Autodesk website a link to download a trial version of the 64-bit version. Does this version still require going through the "work around"?

Since it's a 64-bit trial, I see no reason why it should require the work around.

Most programs you should have no trouble using in 64-bit Vista even though it's a 32-bit program. The occasional program might give you trouble (like AutoCAD and Inventor).

Unless you run in to a program that absolutely does not run in a 64-bit environment, I see no reason for doing this.
