    Hi,

My university offers to its employees a cheap version of Vista Ultimate 32-bit. However, this is only an upgrade disc, which is supposed to work with XP.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use this disc to upgrade an OEM-installed Vista Home Premium. Secondly, is it possible to actually upgrade to a 64-bit version of Ultimate if I can obtain a 64-bit Vista disc from Dell?

    Thanks,

Yes it should work no problem!

I would recommend you upgrade all the way to the 64 bit ultimate!

    You will love it!!!

So is it just a question of using the upgrade disc key when installing vista from the 64-bit disc that Dell sends?

You can't upgrade from a 32 bit version of vista to 64 bit. You have to do a fresh install.

Yea, see if you can get a 64-Bit from Dell. If you can't, at least get the univ.'s cheap 32-Bit Vista

Let me make my question a little more precise:

I have a Vista Ultimate upgrade 32-bit and Vista Home Premium 32-bit OEM. As I understand it, if I have a 32-bit version of Vista, I also have a right to install the 64-bit version with the same key, provided I obtain the 64-bit disc.

Is it going to be possible to use the key from the upgrade disk to install Vista ultimate 64-bit when the OEM has supplied me with the media for Home Premium 64-bit?

    Thanks again.

Not possible. You will need a fresh install going from 32 to 64.
