    Hi,

I always hear a lot of friends saying "Vista sucks!" but not having any valid arguments and/or reasoning as to why that's true. They hear it takes up lots of resources and without knowing much else about it and immediately disqualify it.

I've found myself doing the same but I'd like to stop being ignorant and learn to be more knowledgeable on this topic.

So, which side do you stand by and what are you reasons for it? You'll help me learn to accept either side by teaching me.

    Thank you :D

For me, Vista has a better looking interface, improved security, as well as cool features like ShadowCopy, and faster file copying.

Besides the improved security, the rest of what you said doesn't really make for a good solid debate...

Vista eats more RAM, boots up slower, IS slower, has glitches, quite different to XP (takes some time to get used to), and is less stable compared to XP.

On the good side, Its prettier, more secure (doubt it), more intuitive, can utilize intel turbo memory, supports DX10, has a nicer windows update, and neater start menu.

thats all I can think of now, I need to sleep

i just reinstalled my version of vista ultimate on a separate partition to try it with the new updates and sp1. i then cut out a lot of junk using vlite and reinstalled it. so far, it's working just as fast as xp sp3. though it's still a memory hog.. with only 29 processes running it's using 653mb of ram. my xp has 34 processes running using 322mb of ram (same av and programs). there is also still a noticeable drop in gaming performance (around 10 fps with dx9 and 5-8 with dx10). pretty much all the driver issues and "glitches" are gone. it's a big improvement from last years vista ultimate

if you don't mind it eating ram and can spare a few fps.. there's no reason no to use vista

vista doesn't run my trading software at all, xp runs it flawlessly, therefore I conclude that vista sucks.

Okay thread closed before it becomes a flame war and as mentioned, we have plenty of threads on this subject.

Do your research and see if the software you need works on vista or look for alternative "vista friendly" software. Look at the stickied Vista tweaks thread for ways to improve vista functionality/get rid of some of its annoyances and if you are still not happy with vista, then look at your laptop's manufactures site and see if they have the necessary drivers for when you install XP(or you can always take the linux route).
