This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    VNC Over the Internet?

    Hello :)

    Its been awhile since ive done it. Using VNC across the internet, meaning on different networks. I remember doing port forwarding. Any good guides i should read? :eek: :D

    UltraVNC used to have a guide available for download, no idea if it is still there or not.

    for safetys sake, you are going to need a VPN-capable router/firewall on top of any tunneling software you use. It is quite possible to run encrypted VNC without a real VPN tunnel, but it's not recommended.

    UltraVNC doesn't offer any encryption protocols, so using it over the internet is out of the question without using SSH.

    UltraVNC can use a DSM plugin. Nearly everyone I know who uses UltraVNC uses a DSM plugin whether or not they are running locally or across a WAN or internet link.
