Here's my brief rundown of the new version.

First, it does a better job handling sub files, but there are still problems. The text, for whatever reason, is distorted and looks a little blurry. Additionally, the subs aren't centered or in their proper position. Another problem I found is that the picture looks slightly washed out. It's not major, but it is somewhat noticeable. I believe I had a similar complaint with the previous version. Next, it still has some problems when dealing with mkv files. This issue is aggravated when dealing with large mkv files. Furthermore, you can't see where you are in the file. There used to be a little marker present to show you where you were. I don't know why they didn't keep it. Maybe it's hidden somewhere in the options? Finally, I've noticed some stability issues popping up from time to time. Even though I've only been using the program for about 15 minutes, it's already crashed on me 3 times. In closing, VLC has offered some improvements; however, they don't completely fix the problems of the previous version and might have inserted some new ones.

Overall, its good but when I tried to watch a movie I got a black screen for the first 5 sec, and then the image but all "pixeliy" and then it went back to normal. But I do like the new GUI.

No real reason. I just prefer it because there's nothing to clean up if needed. Plus, it is kind of nice not having to run an installer.

Pretty big updates on everything. Hated the controller in full screen mode though, quickly disabled that in preferences.

I still think I'll stick with GOM player. Anyone care to share advantages of VLC over GOM, if there are any?

    VLC is portable. :D

    Thanks for the headsup, jin.

edit: I think VLC has better color correction than GOM, too.

I just played the same movie (Jurassic Park III), at the same point with both players, and couldn't notice any difference.

Perhaps other movies might display a noticable difference, but in my test, they both looked absolutely identical.

(I didn't realize I could play the same movie, at the same time, with two different players, but I guess you can.... )

Why wouldn't you be able to? Play as many as you want. lol. With VLC I know you can run multiple instances of it, I'm not familiar with GOM though.

Ok, I unchecked that, still the controller was popping up. It may have been the source with was a slideshow. It appears OK playing movies.

PS I also notice you can't search desktop. I often leaves stuff there.
