I am trying to see if there is such a thing as software/utiliy app that when run will give you detailed specs on what is in either a desktop or laptop.Example: RAM = 4 gigs of 800 Corsair, or even just 4 gigs of 800, and so forth? Is there such a thing? I can't believe I already lost track of my specs for the desktop I had custom ordered in April and now am thinking of selling it.
    All advice is much appreciated.

This is what the majority of folks agree is the best freeware available. Look under SYSTEM TOOLS/Resource Monitors. I like BelarcAdvisor.

Since the OP doesn't spec freeware only, then I must say I use Everest Ultimate 4.20.1170 and I'm fully satisfied.

Now, for people who wanna know what's available, and are also interested in scripts (so that they can integrate them into their own), here's a handy list: http://www.robvanderwoude.com/inventorytools.html
