Is it possible to use a HDD with all the windows 8 software and office 2010 installation in a replacement PC?

To make it clearer: I want to send a defect notebook back without the HDD and use that HDD in the replacement.
    Does this work?
Are there any programs or windows 8 itself that wouldn't work correctly because the MAC address or other hardware serial isn't identical any more?
Anyone with experience in that special case?

    Thanks!

It will work, in principle, as long as the replacement has identical hardware. You're correct that there are software packages that are keyed to the MAC address of your network card (others are keyed to the VolID of your hard drive, but since you keep the drive that will not be an issue). In those cases you may need to re-activate the software. Procedure will depend on the vendor.
