I have never used EasyCleaner but I have been using CCleaner for some time now and I can say it is excellent and especially since its free. Firstly, it is very useful for making it very easy to clean you system from clutter that naturally builds. It is in no way harmful to the system however you may accidentally select an option that you do not want selected and might loose some configurations.

If you are aware of what your doing then I highly recommend it. I have been using it for a long time and I can pretty much say that defragging and Ccleaner is responsible for the system in my sig even running at all.

    Here are some features:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/features

    Hope that helps

I cover the use of CCleaner and EasyCleaner in my Tweaking Thread below.

I find that EasyCleaner is the most powerful 'free' program to clean unnecessary files and temporary files, much better than any other I have tried.

I don't use the 'Registry Cleaner' in Easy Cleaner as I run Vista Ultimate 64 Bit and it deleted a few needed registry entries when I first used it.

Hence, if anyone knows of a better free registry cleaner than CCleaner for Vista 64 Bit, please do tell!!!!

Heck, maybe I'll throw it in the Tweaking Guide, credit to you of course.

When I first tried CCleaner in my old desktop, wow. The performance difference was HUGE. Of course, it's not applicable to my new laptop because I've been more careful with the things I install and I have barely uninstalled anything. Those uninstalls really leave messes in the registry..!

Anyway, they're useful to a certain degree. Cleans up your registry especially if your computer has uninstalled a bunch of programs over its lifetime. They can also clean up your temporary files for some extra disk space.

The use of registry cleaners by those unencumbered by knowledge can precipitate serious problems.

However, the file system cleanup features of CCLeaner can be very useful without such concerns.

There is a post with my settings for CCleaner here and a post with my CCleaner registry cleaning settings here.

(I just updated the pictures in those posts today)

CCleaner's great, and I use it to delete all my history and temporary files. However when I'm using the registry cleaner, I'm more careful with what I delete. Sometimes messing with the registry can have harmful side effects. ;)

I just recently DLed Ccleaner for the first time and scanned my pc. MY desktop is a few years old and omg after using Ccleaner for registry and whatnot, I noticed a huge improvement in speed. Why didn't I find this sooner >:O
I have yet put it on my new laptop, because it's new and it shouldn't make a difference really right now.

Well for the registry, it shouldn't be clearing much. Also, it's Vista. Ccleaner fully compatible with Vista? I don't want it to remove important things.

Yes it's compatible with Vista (and x64 too). Also, don't worry about removing important registry entries, CCleaner does a nice job getting rid of things that aren't important at all (or fixes the things that are important).

I never think twice before clicking, "Are you sure you want to delete the selected registry entries?"

CCleaner works on vista, there's no ifs, ands, maybes, or buts. I don't find it fully effective though, so i use another free app which i find the best out of all that i have tested called Free Window Registry Repair.

UPDATE: People have been having problems with this software, i suggest you don't use it.

Holy crap Calvin, nice find on that program.

I first ran CCleaner, no problems in the registry. Then I ran that Free Window Registry Repair, 522 found.

I read through them all too, all 100% safe to remove.

This program safely deletes registry keys and as long as you set it to make backups, it will makes backups before it deletes anything. If anything goes wrong, which i doubt, use the backup.

    nice app.
i like how this thread was about ccleaner and now window registry repair. ;p

Also, do you recommend this over ccleaner? I only want one registry repair on my laptop. unless you recommend using both, ill stick with one, since their both vista compatible.

Free windows registry repair is meant for cleaning the registry only, which is why it does a better job than CCleaner. But if you need to delete your TEMP files and such and don't want to do it manually i would recommend you keep CCleaner on there but just don't use it for registry cleaning.

I tried it, and other than a few things that needed fixing afterwards (e.g.: It removed the setting that made Firefox the default browser for one), it seems OK. Especially for free.

    It does and did.

Or, perhaps more correctly, it apparently deleted the registry key that defines the default browser.

I ran a full backup prior to running Free Window Registry Repair 1.2 and then ran Free Window Registry Repair 1.2 and then the default browser was not defined.

I can recreate this at will based on the full backup being restored and Free Window Registry Repair 1.2 being rerun.

    And I have.

Still, not bad at all, especially for free.

Always be sure to create registry backups before cleaning them. You can easily revert back the registry settings by doing so.

If you use windows live one care clean up scan it automatically creates a system restore point before the clean up process.

Yes, i already tried Wise Registry Cleaner out, it didn't do anything for my system. It barely found any registry problems and most of them weren't considered "safe" to perform.

About your FWRR errors, i'm not sure what they are. I get them too, but only sometimes, other times it works fine. I think it's because it can't access a certain registry key because it's in use. If i have nothing running i don't get it, but when i have a few programs open it gives me that. If they're annoying you could use a different registry repair application.

Reestablishing the default browser is very easy to do. Still, it did surprise me that it went missing. There were a few other anomalies, too. Nothing too out of the ordinary for the registry cleaner marketspace, though. No matter what the vendors, marketing hype, reviewers, and proponents say, registry cleaning is still risky business. Anyone who undertakes it without some background and knowledge, or at the very least a really superb backup, is simply inviting troubles. This particular product rates about a B- on my scale; although it should be noted that my arbitrary ratings do not give any credit (plus nor minus) for cost, so freeware has no advantages and cost software is not penalized. Therefore, a B- is pretty good.

I seem to be having an issue with a couple of apps and that Free Registry Repair. I turned on my Eee PC and tried opening FireFox and all my settings were revereted (like on the default). Then I tried settiing them and it won't save. Then it started to crash... a lot. I even tried the lastest Beta 3 and the same thing happens.

IE is also acting up as well. I'm starting to have second thoughts regarding this app. :(

I've not actually looked for any. I use CCleaner and RegSupreme. Based on my successful use of RegSupreme, if I wanted more I would probably first try out RegSupremePro or JV16PowerTools from the same company. Not free, though.
