    Dear All,

I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and I have a legal copy of Office XP Standard. I have installed Office XP standard and the installation went on fine. No problems whatsoever. Now I have some issues, which I kindly request someone among you to clarify for me ASAP (I need Office XP to work properly now for my paper submission and thesis work :-(..)

    Issues:
    (1) When I opened a word file made in my desktop (XP Pro, SP3) on my laptop, some of the formatting was lost. For example, the micro symbol was gone and instead a blank rectangular box was in its place. Can you please tell me what to do?

    (2) I tried to update the Office XP with SP3 or SP2 but the updates are not completed. I always get an error code 779 (Yes, I have checked in the microsoft help and support site, but could not find an answer!!) Can someone please tell me why the updates are not working? And why I still keep getting an information that "Important Updates available to install" and Office XP SP3 is one of them!! Still when I install, I cannot, and there is this error code 779.

Many thanks for your help. Looking forward to a solution ASAP.

    Cheers.

Hey Kegobeer, Thanks for your reply.. Well the error message was "update cannot be installed" and that the update failed and there was this error message 779 (which ofcourse was preceded by many zero') and then there were links to microsoft' help page.... which obviously didn't help much either...

BUT...... I found these two links

    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29880007/update-kb933666.aspx

    http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=851

And these links sound pretty reasonable and helpful too... at least it looks like it worked for the people who have posted there... I havent tried it yet, but I will now... Will get back here soon. Thanks again :)

    Hi People,

Following up on my previous post, I followed the instructions on those two links and it worked like a charm... I would suggest others to take a look there for similar issues they might be facing :) Cheers and good luck.
