I need to submit an essay to my University but OpenOffice spellchecker doesn't work... whats the deal?

It just says "spellcheck complete" but I know for a fact a lot of words are spelled wrongly, some intentionally.

    Open Office V2.0 Writer.

If you are in a hurry due to a deadline, try copy and paste into an e-mail and let that spell checker look at it. Some of the formatting may be wrong, but at least you might find the typos.

You could upgrade to version 2.4.1 which is the latest. Though it may take a while. You could also paste it into Firefox, which has a spell checker. Also make sure you have the appropriate dictionary in Ooo. If you spell check for a different language but do NOT have that dictionary that will result. (Example: UK English needs a different dictionary installed before it can be spell checked) Also look on the Ooo forums http://www.oooforum.org/

Thanks for the help, but I'm going to stick with Office 2007 until this trial runs out and then purchase the dam thing :)

I assumed openoffice spellchecker was fine, I was about to submit it :(

Hate to say but I think Word spell checker is the best. Just recently had to cut and paste from Thunderbird into Word to get it correct.

Agreed, one of the main reasons I bought Office was for Word's Grammar and Spelling checker. I know that there are extentions floating around for OpenOffice, but I'd rather use something that I know is relatively accurate.
