hi, im trying to boot xp on a brand new sager 5796 but every time it loads the files fine then it goes straight to BSOD. i have a feeling this is an error where it doesnt recognize the SATAII hard drive but shouldnt it just tell me it doesnt recognize a hard drive instead of blue screen right away? It's XP SP3 so i thought they would have put SATAII drivers in there by now.... can anyone help? id really like to get this new puppy going :(

SATA drivers will only be an issue during the installation of XP... (You didn't clarify if that's what you're doing, so I am going to assume so).

Microsoft hasn't updated the installation routine for XP, so even with the newest copy it will have SATA issues. However, when SATA is the issue, it generally brings you to a screen that tells you the Windows installer cannot find a hard disk, not a BSOD.

Regardless, the workaround for SATA drives is to either use a floppy with the appropriate drivers and press F6 when prompted, or to slipstream them via nLite. Try that first.

If that doesn't work I'm thinking there might be a problem with the installation CD, since a BSOD shouldn't happen whether the drive is SATA or PATA.

Try go in the BIOS, change the SATA AHCI Mode to Compatibility Mode, then install XP and the proper SATA driver, after that change it back to AHCI Mode.

Change it to AHCI first, then boot back into XP, then install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver from the link above, it should be the PM45 one.
