I'm trying to update my Windows 7 laptop using the Windows 10 upgrade assistant. I was initially getting 2 checks and 1 x which said cpu not compatible. Googled and people wrote I need to enable nx in the bios which let me start the download. It restarts after finishing the download and I get the Windows screen with a percentage saying it's get ready. When it finishes I get the Windows logo then a black screen with no cursor and just the spinning loading icon.

The laptop is a alienware m11x r2. I'm not sure if this could be the problem but my motherboard died and I put in a new motherboard. It initially had an i5 520um I upgraded to an i7 680um.

Did you also update to the latest available BIOS prior to upgrading to W10? I did a upgrade of W7 to W10 in the past and that didn't go well and lost alot of data but lucky me I made a backup image of W7 and reverted back and did a clean W10 install and that works better. So what version of W10 did you upgrade before? What I did was use the download create USB W10 install and used that along with any W7 drivers or W10 if they have them to reinstall the drivers to insure the problem wasn't user install or hardware failure or install problems to narrow down the problem. What your experiencing seems to be what happened to those whom upgraded and had issues as this was something talked alot about when some users were upgrading to W10.
