    Hello,

I don't have any blank DVD's with me. Do you think its worth using daemon tools to do an upgrade in place with the W7 iso? I don't want to get screwed over halfway through the install process when the installer can no longer find the DVD image...

    Thanks

How are you supposed to do that?
Daemon tools runs on Windows, how can you upgrade Windows while Windows is running, let alone running Deamon tools, which probably will need to be re-installed after updating.

You have to burn Windows 7 onto a disk, no other possibilities.

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought, was just checking. Didn't know if Daemon was clever enough to do it.

    Thanks

    It's not about cleaver.
This is like completely build a new house ON (not above, I mean at the place) a current house while you live in it. You will have a lot of conflicts in doing such project. Usually, you want to demolish the old house, and THEN build a new one, and THEN live inside it, once completed.
This is exactly what Windows 7 upgrade does. The "Upgrade" means that it comes with movers to remove your furniture and everything from the old house and put it back to the new house.

Just use the instructions on the Technet blog. It's quick and easy.

I understand daemon tools is an application that sits inside windows, and we are fundamentally re-building the windows platform, so daemon is being run as a process inside an OS that is being upgraded. I didnt know if there was an option to run it in the bootstrap/bios/pre-boot as a application outside the OS (if that kind of thing is even possible, certain i had a custom boot screen with my dual boot linux pc). If not thats cool, was just checking :) been a while since i used it, didn't know if any new technologies had been developed.

    Thanks

it should work since when you do an in-place upgrade from what i'm aware of, the installer copies the files to your hard drive so it should be ok

    i could be wrong though

You could always extract the iso with winrar or 7zip, and then run the setup.exe, perhaps pointing to a different partition. Then, change the drive letters and delete the one you don't want, or keep it if you desire in a dual boot.
