So I got a new machine and it came with Vista installed and also a Vista Upgrade disc. Could I use that disc to upgrade my xp on a different machine to Vista also? Thanks

You could use the disc ONLY IF they gave you a separate Product Key. With Microsoft, the activation is based on the Product Key.

If they gave you two separate keys then yes you can use it on another computer or you can run the 30 day trial and reactivate it an additional 4 times for a total of 120 days.
