As soon as I got my laptop it took me 2 sec befor I put Windows XP Media Center on to it. I know alot of people are disatisfied with Vista but did any one else do the same, or are you giving it a chance now that is has been a year from its release...

When I got my laptop I chose XP cuz I knew Vista sucked. I find it funny when people on these forums say it's only a 1-2fps loss, when it's more like 10-20. Hell, I just downgraded my brother's laptop from Vista to XP, and all he does is type and surf the web, and he understands how crappy and slow it is! Vista should work on their OS before releasing a half-assed piece of crap with good visuals, and nothing more.

Any sources for your claims? The only time I've seen a 10-20 fps difference from XP to Vista is if the game is running at super high frames (ie 100+) where it wouldn't make a difference anyways.

After using Vista for a few weeks and figuring out how it works, I've been able to tweak and adjust it to run smoother, faster, and more stable than XP was for me. This is probably due in part to the fact that my hardware now is much better than my old desktop with XP, but Vista is very responsive for me.

I suggest you give Vista a try before chucking it. Many useful updates have been released since its inception and with SP1 around the corner, it's only getting better.

My $.02. Vista is perfectly fine, the only real performance problems that people encounter are when they try to use it on a computer that is too weak for it's own good.
PS, I agree 100% with crash.

10%. If you play your games at 25FPS, it's a 2-3 FPS loss. If you need 100FPS, it's 10FPS less....

Also, any openGL games can't be taken for comparison, as both nvidia & ATI have yet to make openGL competant drivers for Vista yet.

Vista has been fantastic for me since September '07. Over these months, Vista has been much more reliable for me then XP ever was. It's also been a better performer.

I <3 Vista. Its so pretty and I find its quite speedy. My brother hates it, but his laptop is a under-powered sack of crap.

I use Server 2008, but it has basically the kernel as the one you get in the Vista SP1. It is decently fast and stable, doesn't give me headaches and it looks better compared to XP.
If anyone wants SP1 and doesn't yet know it's available for download, check my signature.

Yeah, I did a clean install of XP of my girlfriend's laptop over the weekend because the previous installation was beginning to break. I must say, messing it with all that time got me to miss it.

But, I'm still lovin' me some Vista. Hasn't given me a reason to hate it so far.

Vista's treated me pretty well; had to re-install a couple times....first time I wanted to undo all my experimental tweaks, second time Windows updates screwed up my first re-install. :p

Planning to dual-boot with Ubuntu some time.... ;)
