Hopefully this thread is in the right place.

Basically my problem is that sometimes when I plug in USB devices (MP3 Player, USB Stick etc) a message from Windows (Vista) pops up saying the device will perform better if plugged into a USB2.0 slot and then displays a fairly large list of ports, i'll try to get a screenshot of it the next time it happens and post it here.

    1) I only have 4 USB ports, so why does it display 8 or 9 in the "error" message?
    2) I had thought all 4 USB ports on my laptop were USB 2.0, can this be checked?
    3) How come this "error" only pops up occasionally, yet I can plug the device in 2 minutes later and I don't get the message?

I've got all the latest drivers from the laptops manufacturers website so im a bit miffed really...Thanks for any light that you may be able to shine on my problem

I use to get the same message with a usb skype phone, I am certain the phone is to blame as i tried it on multiple notebooks and desktoips , it`s strange you more than one device saying this.

If it says enhanced usb controller , in the usb section in device manager you have usb2.0 enabled.

    installed the usb drivers properly.
enable the usb2.0 from the bios.
you can also check this from the device manager .

Could this be due to an internal USB hub?

Somethng, like let me call it secondardy and primary ports?

I think my old medion had such message - but only on on of the 3 USB ports.

Tinderbox in device manager this is what I have:

I notice it has enhanced on two of the entries but I have 4 USB ports, 2 on the side, 2 on the back. I don't know what all the other entries are...

I have a Dell 1520 if that makes things any clearer?

Your internal devices are possibly connected via USB - things like keyboard and touchpad.

On my SZ its also the CD/DVD drive...

plenty of USB devics is du to internal USB

Do these pop-up warnings occur only when you've got other things already plugged into one of your USB ports, or can they happen when there is nothing else plugged into any of the external USB ports?
