This topic is about what kind of tweaking & registry cleaner you use and how accurate is it,if you use for example any software for visual tweaking which one?I'm also waiting for oppinions about registry cleaners and tweaking is it something vital? How much time do you spend tweaking your PC/Notebook?

As Rajesh said this has been asked and answered NUMEROUS times in these forums, a new thread is not needed to get the info you seek.

Wow guys, chill out! No harms in asking. He might have missed it so either say something useful or ignore it! It's not like the forum is your own property! He did not violate any rules.

On a side note, those thread may be ancient, and things change overtime. And thus, a new fresh thread is not a bad idea.

There should only be one sticky thread for this general question "No Tweaking nor cleaner is needed" with a content of "any new thread would be removed"

One should tell the actual problem then there would be specific solution.

    I use:

    - PerfectDisk
    - PerfectCache
    - Ultimate Windows Tweaker
    - Ashampoo WinOptimizer 8
    - SuperAntiSpyware Pro

I disable the NTFS Last access time stamp, NTFS Encryption, set wait for closing apps on shutdown to 0, disable windows startup sound, disable Windows Error Reporting, Disable Windows FireWall (I use ESET Smart security), Disable Windows Defender (I use SuperAntiSpyware PRO) using Ultimate Windows Tweaker

    Services I disable:

    - Program Compatibility Assistant (Usless crap that pops up on many program installs that are perfectly compatible with Win 7)

    - Windows Time

    - Tablet PC service

    - Windows Firewall (as stated above, I use ESET Smart Security so I don't need this)

    - Remote Registry (Major security threat and should be disabled according to Ashampoo's WinOptimizer 8's recommendation)

    - Windows Media Player Network bla bla bla

and finally, I disable usless startup stuff like the Java update schedules, quicktime task, and real scheduler, and Adobe Gamma, and Adobe Reader Manager (gets started automatically if you install Adobe Reader but Adobe Reder works just fine without this startup item)

I usually don't tweak too much. But CCleaner and Glary Utils are the ones I use for clearing temp files and such.

I doubt that the time saved through performance gained by dubious tweaks is greater than the time wasted actually applying them. This simple arithmetic is what stopped my tweaking days, when XP was still a current OS.

Save your money and your time. Stop buying and using these marketing tricks.

While some of them don't work. Some of them do. :)

But at least now, Windows 7 performs up to decent standards even without any tweaks. You can squeeze a little bit performance still though although not mandatory.

I prefer to squeeze every bit of performance that I can. Using safe tweaks though.

What about none? The only "tweaking" that I do is disabling a few services.

You don't disable useless startup items like the JAva Auto Update Scheduler and Adobe stuff, real player scheduler, etc?

Well, sure. Disabling startup entries/ services is the only tweaking I do. But that's not in the poll.

I rather do these "optimizations" by hand so I know exactly what's going on...
I disable a few Windows startup items, like homegroup or the wmp extender thing, really just a couple useless ones but other than that...nothing. Also, if any programs have useless services I disable them too, but that's about it. I used to be really into tweaking and then I realized...you're not really achieving anything.

Run CCleaner, don't install useless software, disable useless startup items, defrag, have windows update itself... and you're pretty much good to go.

I will say I miss the good old days... programs promising to increase your download speeds by 1,000%, increase your CPU performance...haha. Good times.

If folks take the time to go back thru the other threads on this topic, this seems to be the consensus on the topic. If you do want or need to do any tweaking, do it by hand, that way if things go awry you know exactly what to do to restore proper functionality. So many of these snake oil programs make changes and you have no clue what they are doing.

At this point I think most folks tweaks are just eliminating unwanted startup services like the prevalent "update checking" services that the idiots at Apple and Adobe want to install and have running all the time. Their arrogance in this really annoys me. Why they can't have their apps check for new versions when the the app is loaded like all other well behaved apps is ridiculous.

As usual, if you have nothing useful to contribute, you don't have to post, and if you have any issues with other members, you can always report issues to moderators or use the handy dandy Ignore button.

Several posts have been removed--let's try to stay on topic and keep insults out, okay?

First of all thanks to the moderator for cleaning this thread of all non sens crap. And now with the subject me I use Windows 7 Manager and i find that it has effect and has a lot of interesting option inside, sometimes I use also Tuneup Utilities but just for installing a great theme or like so but now i don't use it anymore :p .About the hand made tweaks vs software tweaks it's quite simple why do this manual when there is a software who does that?there are lot of people who don't know to do this manual (not in my case) or who don't have enough time to do it manual. The tweaking software does not install things that would harm your device it's tested before release it does this only if you don't know how to use it.
For me it's important i get a lot more smoothness by tweaking my notebook works more fast and feels more lite and when you need this why not doing? :D
Edit:I forgot to say this for those of you who vote others please mention it here describing a bit what option does it have...etc :p
