    I have a new HP dv9500t running Vista Home Premium . . .

Trying to encrupt my wireless access point, D-Link DWL 7100AP

Step 1: Open your web browser and type "http://192.168.0.50" in the URl address box; then press the enter or return key.
The log on popup screen should appear . . .

But the log-on screen for the IE brower doesn't appear! I just get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" page.

There must be some setting in Vista preventing me to log on! Aarrgghh!!

    Can anybody help?

check to make sure you have the addy of your router correctly typed in to IE -

go to the start menu and type 'cmd' sans quotes and hit enter
then type 'ipconfig' without the quotes

scroll all the way to the top of the window and make note of the Default Gateway address - that is what you should put into the address field of your browser.

    Thanks, elscorcho,

I finally got ahold of D-Link tech support . . . went through all the command prompts and setting issues to find out it was a hardware problem . . . their hardware.

Got an RMA and a replacement on the way . . . had one month to go on a 3 year warranty.

Made it just under the wire!

congrats! i'm more of a Buffalo fan myself, but glad to know that D-Link is sending a new router to you for free :)

and if you can, try to use WPA instead of WEP - it's much harder to crack, especially if you use a long alphanumeric password.

Thanks for the heads up on the WPA instead of the WEP!

I did what you said . . . ran the ipconfig in the command prompt . . . loaded the gateway address onto the web browser . . . and still got the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message.

I hope it is the WAP and not some software setting blocking the access!

Did you change the router IP? The default IP for Dlink is 192.168.0.1. If you didn't try that.

Thanks for the tip, Deputy, but yeah . . . I tried that to no avail as well!

    Thanks, though!
