    i'm trying to shrink my main partition to make room for the Windows 7 beta, but despite having over 40gb of free space on my primary partition, i can't shrink it beyond about 137gb (the original size being 140gb). can someone help me?

    I think this issue was gone through, at least in large part, in this thread and this thread.

    i DLed and booted into Gparted, but it won't let me shrink the partition either!!

    any ideas?

    okay, problem solved. i had to run a CHKDSK first. jesus, that took effing ages. ah well, at least i have my partition(s) now.
