I was just wondering if I can download a legal trial version of just MS Outlook 2007? I wouldn't mind seeing whats updated and if its any good. I don't want to download the entire office package offered on the microsoft website as I already have the rest. Thanks guys!

Are you currently using Outlook 2003? If so, it will probably give you an error if you try to launch Outlook 2007. Early last year, I decided to give MSO 2007 Professional a test drive and created a nightmare for myself!!! Somehow, it deactivated Outlook 2003 and transferred everything over to Outlook 2007 including my mail folders (history) and my calendar. I despised the interface in all the MSO 2007 programs (the 'Ribbon') but I had a nightmare to cope with when I tried to get my data out of Outlook 2007 back to Outlook 2003. I promptly packed Office 2007 and shipped it back to HELL where it belongs! lol

Just be careful, that's the point of my ranting....if you have another computer that isn't running Outlook 2003, use it to play around with Outllook 2007.

None of the other apps, Word, Excel or Access, had any problems like Outlook did...so I try to warn everyone to be careful.....if you do install it, backup Outlook 2003 prior to anything else.

    Good luck! :)

Didn't you back up your PST 2003 file?

No....because I didn't even intend to activate Outlook 2007 at the time! But it took on a life of its own....did I mention that it was a profound learning experience for me? :D I did more swearing that day than in my entire life combined, I think.

I routinely backup my .pst file now.

Just use a VM to test it.. Virtual PC is an easy choice. You can use Office for 30 days I think before you have to activate it.

Has anyone seen any reports on how well (or poor) sales of Office 2007 have been since its introduction? I'd be interested to see how it's performing....

I'd imagine that a lot of users chose NOT to upgrade because of the completely redesigned interface....I tried to acclimate to it but it just wasn't happening and it was slowing me down too much!

Excel 2007 is especially painful....I'm amazed that a few CPA's haven't gone postal over it! I'm an accountant for God sakes.....we don't like unnecessary change!

Ribbon does take some getting used to, but now I love it. It just takes time to acclimatise with. But to each his own.

I felt kinda like RAIN MAN trying to acclimate to the Ribbon. I've just used Excel for so many years, the menus are burned in my memory permanently!

It didn't help matters that I tried to learn Office 2007 simultaneously with Windows VISTA.....back in Spring 2007 when VISTA was very, um, "green"....it would crash at least once per hour back then!

I have grown to tolerate Windows Vista after all this time, though....not so sure if I can do the same for MSO 2007!

My father is a tax accountant. He would change your statement from "unnecessary" to "any." The vast books he reads every year that contain just the annual changes to the tax code makes the Iliad look like a picture book.
