Im sure most of you know about this already but id like to remind everyone that updated to SP1 on how to regain 1-10gb of HD space by cleaning out the unneccessary left-over SP1 files.

NOTE: You only do this if you definately wanna stick with SP1 (which most people will). It will make SP1 permanent on your system

    1) Type in vsp1cln.exe on your command prompt as administrator

    2) It will prompt you if you wanna clean out the SP1 files, type Y for YES

    3) It should take a few minutes to clean out the files.

    Check your space now :)

Same here - 10GB increase in free space :) Have to admit that after few tweaks Vista can become even better than XP.

For whatever reason I only recovered about .7GB. I clean up the hard disk and defrag once a week, I must have unknowingly already removed these files during one of my maintenance sessions.

flipfire, you should suggest this in the Vista Tweaks thread. It would be a good addition.

EDIT: Never mind, I just noticed that you have already done so. :D

I tried it and I didn't get anything back. :( I was able to recover space by deleting the hibernation file, deleting the contents of my temp folder and disabling system restore. I got back 8GB that way.

If you think they're applicable to a majority of users and safe to do, then suggest them.

Nice tweak! I will add it when I can get the time to stay for a bit! I will concede though this was brought to me earlier. I just hadn't got to it as it was so early compared to the release date.

yea.. only .8 gb... eh.. i was gonna stick with it anyway. Most of your "lost" memory is in shadow space and sys. restore. Half the ppl in this forum have an average of about 20gigs even tho their HD says full... check on how to limit the max... then you'll rele see some differences...

.1GB lol still space is space.

I run disk cleanup and cc cleaner ect once in awhile so I may have gotten most of it already before I ran this.

Registry Mechanic. Well, if CCleaner would not do it and I have never the CMD before, why would it not get rid of anything?

I got about .6 GB back, which considering I've been working hard to keep at least 10 GB free on my internal, helps a bit :)

Hooray for 80 GB internal drives XD

Yes you can still do this tweak it even if SP1 was integrated already. You wont get much back though
