Internet Explorer runs a distant 3rd as compared to Opera and Firefox, in my opinion. Try them out and see which you prefer.

Both are faster, have more options, more secure, better fonts and readability.

I keep IE for some websites, but I use Firefox and Opera 99.9% of the time.

They are both free--try it, you will like it.

Fireox can be tweaked so it loads pages faster. There are other reasons but I use it for this reason

    Also it is customizeable

Quite a bit. There's changes from skins to adding more functionality to increasing security. Check out firefox's extension and theme page to get an idea.

Would it be worth going to the beta now or waiting for the full version?

Depends, if you want to be able to test out the whole gamut of extensions, then you'll want to start with Firefox 2. But if you want the bleeding edge in speed and default options go with FF3 beta 5, that is what I am running right now and I loves it...but, there are several plugins that I'm missing at the moment.

As far as loading pix and videos, thats not a problem. But if you are worried there is an extension for firefox that lets you run IE in it. It's called IETab.

The best thing you could have done (instead of making this thread), is searching in google for firefox, going to the firefox website, downloading and installing firefox, then trying it out! ;) That way you would have known for yourself why you wouldn't go back to IE :) Self help is the best help. :D

Do it! There won't be nearly so much malware to worry about with Ubuntu and Firefox. Either is safer than Windows and IE as you've been using them; together you'll have a top-notch setup.

I'm using FF 2, but try going to Tools > Options > Privacy, and check what your cookies are set to.

I'm very glad you enjoy Firefox, welcome to better browsing. Recommend it to everyone you know to keep the internet alive, and be sure to post again if you have any more comments or questions. Just asking, what features do you like about Firefox? Anything that hasn't been mentioned yet?

Yes, it's very good, i disabled it because it was causing trouble for a couple of sites i visit but now i think it wasn't worth it. I'll install it again when it becomes compatible with 3.0pre.

In short without making a page long post, no it isn't, and it starts in about a second for me on cold boot, and 3/4ths of a second on warm or so.

=.=; If you want to know, you can try it, it'll take all of 1min. It's better than me explaining everything in detail as the release notes for Firefox 3 beta 5 already explain it nicely. There is too much detail and change and information even though your question seems simple.

No, you have to redo them but it's recommended you don't. Firefox 3 doesn't need to be tweaked therefore it isn't meant to be tweaked. That's why installing something like Fasterfox will only make it slower.
