I recently bought a new Dell Latitude E6410 and most of the time when I attempt to copy files off the SD card, I get the following error:

The semaphore timeout period has expired

The file is small (700KB), and the card is perfectly readable in my ASUS EEE. I've disabled write caching for the SD card ("optimize for quick removal") and rebooted Windows 7. No improvement.

I've only found one thread about this on NBR, but it got closed due to old age. Internet searching hasn't produced anything useful.

This smells like a hardware error with the SD card reader. Any ideas?

And how would I go about replacing the SD card reader in a Dell laptop...?
