Anyone know if I can use another touchpad driver, this synaptics driver is crap. The CPU jumps up to 100% every time I use the scroll.

It would help if you posted your laptop model and operating system. I don't have any issues with my Synaptics driver, so I'm thinking something else might be the problem.

I don't think it will help but ok. It's a HP ZT3000 running XP Home SP3. It only happens when I'm scrolling long web pages in IE7. I would use some other browser but the synaptics driver doesn't work with them unless I use the latest synaptics driver. But the latest synaptics driver doesn't work well with this old laptop.

What driver version do you currently use? Do you have all of the other notebook drivers installed and do you have the latest bios?

I'm using Version 7.12.7. Like I said before the new drivers doesn't work well. The sensitivity is way off because is a generic driver. The bios is up to date, but the last bios update was years ago.

Go to Internet Explorer options, go to advanced and turn off 'use smooth scrolling'.

Does the CPU only jump to 100% when using IE7?

Yeah, but I don't think IE 7 is the problem. I have a feeling it would do the same thing if I was using Opera or Firerat :). But when I uninstall the synaptics driver, the problem stops. I think the driver is just crap.

Oh and smooth scrolling is always turned off. I think I'll just get a wireless mouse and call it a day. I need a new PC anyway.

    Thanks for the input.

This is kind of funny, because I love Synaptics. The worst I've had is just, the whole touchpad dies, but in general use, I haven't had any problems/

After installing the driver, did you check mouse options in the control panel?

Yeah I did that. It's just the driver. I don't think it likes IE 7 and Firefox, or Opera. Thanks guys for all the help. I just need a new PC.
