Is there any software that allows you to send and receive texts from your computer through your mobile phone (iPhone) and then have it synced back to the phone?

Texting on the phone can be a pain sometimes, and a full-size keyboard helps.

Is it not easier to set up an e-mail account on your mobile phone?

You can send a text to any AT&T mobile number from a computer using their number followed by ' @txt.att.net '. I am sure there is a similar setup for other carriers.

Yahoo messenger has a feature in which you can text thru a cell phone for free. MS Office also has this feature but on a limited basis. Since the cell phone will show the message it'll also keep track of the conversation.

I want to be able to send texts to other mobiles and receive from them on my laptop, not my phone.
Yes, but I'd prefer if I can text them directly and receive texts from them directly.
Sync-ing is not necessary if it's too hard.

You could set up a Google Voice account and link it to your cell phone. You can send/receive texts from both your phone and computer with it as well as have everything forwarded to your phone. So syncing is already accomplished. However, you'll be texting from your Google Voice phone number rather than your cell's number.

im not sure about the syncing.... but AIM can text to cell phones for free ;)

and you can install that on your computer, and install an IM/AIM app on the iphone.... idk about syncing tho, it might work by signing in on the same account on two different devices though. :)

Any IM program (WLM, AIM, Meebo) will send text messages to a phone number.

I've never tried Yahoo messanger, but if the above is true, then that would be the perfect solution for you as it text messages you send and receive will also show up on your phone.

And the best thing about Yahoo messenger is that if you activate the cell phone option in getting messages you'll keep in touch with your Yahoo friends and text them back too! I do recommend unlimited texting thru your carrier otherwise your cell phone bill will be astronomical!

google voice and gmail can text, but I think voice would be the best one to sync with a phone.

I have a few voice invites if you want one to try it out anyway.

My friend has his Iphone with google voice and it works really well.

You can have it display as a SMS from your Phone's number in the settings I believe.

i have a windows mobile phone (xperia). there is an app called "my mobiler", that allows you to remote-control your phone (remote desktop style). using this, i can control my whole phone from the pc, and thus type sms directly on the phone, all with the comfort of a big screen and keyboard on the pc.. :) love it.

Yeah, search for Veency. I'm not sure if it works with 3.x though. It's a bit slower since it's over a network versus USB.

does this work with non-jailbroken iphones? just curious, as it normally doesn't allow background apps / services.

the name of the app is fun :)
