I am about to received a new notebook, and i am trying to put together a list of software programs that i could run to help my find any defects and verify that the correct hardware is present and working. I would like to easily identify potential problems quickly so that i can take advantage of the 30 day return policy that most notebooks have.

Could people please advise me on what software they use or have heard of that would help perform benchmarks, stress tests, graphics card analysers, network card testers, diagnostic suites, dead pixel testers etc...

(In fact i would also like to know what software do PC magazines and Reviewers use to assess the different notebooks on the market... I could collate a list and post it back once i have a resonable set of replies)

SiSoft Sandra has a system test function which gives you some of the information that you are wondering about.

I agree, sandra is a good app to perform stress test / benchmarking. You could also use something like pc mark and 3d mark from the company futuremark.

Sharp AL27, Athlon 64 2700+ 60Gb hdd, 512Mb mem, 64Mb vid, superbright lcd. Great choice for business use.
