My new Lenovo T61 has been showing many software issues. Some ThinkVantage programs, Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and other software crash frequently. Occasionally, the task bar goes crazy. The right side icons appear on the left. Clicking the start menu shows a empty menu. Various labels disappear. The task manager will not open. Just plain chaos. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Solution? I did do a upgrade to Vista Ultimate so Windows should not be corrupt.

that kind of chaos usually cause by virus. try scanning for virus, spyware, and registry clean.
hmmm... that vista ultimate upgrade might cause your recent unstability though...
but virus or spyware might be more likely though. in this case eventualy you probably gonna do reformat, if you want to get it completely fixed. but wait until you get more response, from other member, to confirm.

    try
    scan for viruses and spyware
clean your registry (e.g. crapcleaner, registry mechanic, etc.)

Why would upgrading to Ultimate cause instability?
