Can I add a delay to the taskbar autohide function? Whenever I accidentally move my mouse to the edge, it pops up and it's annoying. I don't want to install any programs (unless similar to xp powertoys). I just want to add a 5 second delay for when it pops up by editing some value in the registry or something. Any suggestions?

AFAIK, such advanced options are not available in Vista for the taskbar customization.
Registry, maybe. Will have to check, but risky.

Is there something like xp powertoys, but for vista maybe?

You can try out TaskBar Activate.
Or search for Taskbar in Regedit, you'll come across TaskbarAnimations, see if you can make sense out of it.

*I dont know if these will work, and probably risky too as Andy said, but try it if you want... and before you make any change, make a backup of the reg or at least write down the value for which u are going to make a change*

See if there a "menu show delay" entry in the registry under hkey_current_user> control panel > desktop ... try changing the value for that and reboot.

    Or try this...

My Computer > right click > properties > system properties > advanced > performance > settings > Uncheck/check (as applicable) "Fade or slide menus into view" > apply and ok.

See if this helps in any way....

Andy, I've seen that, but I'm a little cautious about downloading free software like that. It may have unwanted side effects such as spyware or a virus or something. But I guess if I don't find anything, I'll have to check out if there are any reviews on it. Thanks :D

fonduekid, thank you too. I tried the "slide menus" thing but it just changes between an animated slide and just popping up. Also with registry I'm not one to experiment much, since I'm no expert on computer coding. I was just hoping somebody would know the exact value and file I must change. Hope I'm not being too picky.

Menu Show Delay only changes the amount of time it takes for a menu to pop, fade, or slide open when you run the pointer over it and hover :)

Yeah Yeah, I realized this much... thought it (*may*) apply to the taskbar too in some way... it was just a thought and not a sure solution :) Thanks anyway...

do u hate when u accidently make it come out while u'r usin other windows? like the taskbar would be blockin the window's bar and u can't minimize/maximize/x it out?

my taskbar is at the top of my screen so i had a similar annoyance. i kept accidently hoverin up too far while tryin to x out or maximize a window and the taskbar would pop up in the way. what i did was i right clicked the taskbar ~> properties ~> *UNCLICKED* 'keep taskbar on top of windows'. this way, at least the taskbar won't keep comin out when u'r usin programs. if u do happen to need the taskbar while usin diff programs, u can just hit the windows button. hope that helps any.
