i just wonder how to achieve this. I know i might use a hardware plus software solution. But specifically, how can I do it? I mean which hardware, cables, cords, and which software i should use?

except for the time-tested method of using a removable hard drive or USB thumb drive and the likes?

Yes there is. you need an external harddrive. and usually they ship with a software that enable you to sync back and forth. i know the old windows has something like a briefcase feature that update the most recently modified file. i can't remember what you use on xp/vista.

i recommend something like freeagent go external harddrive.

Many sync programs are unable to handle the following scenario.

    Machine one has file x.
Machine two has file x and file y.
You delete file x from machine one and sync.
You want the app to delete file x from machine two and copy file y to machine one.

Most sync apps will copy x and y to machine one. SureSync is one of the few that I have found which can handle this scenario. It does so by keeping a database of file names along with date and timestamps. Using this it can understand that at one time BOTH machines had a copy of file X and now it should be remove from machine two. This is just one of many ways it can be configured. Quite a powerful app. SureSync Link I have used this app for several years and it is well worth every penny I spent. It can even handle sync between multiple machines. I use it to sync the MyDocuments folder on my laptop, my desktop machine and a folder on my server so that the MyDocuments folder gets backed up to tape every night.

I've started using MS Groove. It's part of some Office 2007 packages. It works GREAT. I tried a few other solutions, but Groove is the only one that would easily and seamlessly keep files updated across a network and and the internet. I've only been using it over the weekend, so this week will be the big test, but I have really good feelings about it. If you have it, I recommend trying it out.
