Firstly I am having this problem on my desktop and i know this is notebookreview forums and this should really be put on desktopreview. But the thing is nobody answer on there.

Anyway my problem is that when im just doing light tasks and listening to music i get radom locking up of sound and video. This locking up only happens for less than a second but causes audio to stutter and the mouse pointer to jump across the screen.

It happens with both iTunes and Spotify and im sure they are not the cause of the stuttering because my CPU usage does not raise at all. It sits at around 5-10%. It happens a lot in internet explorer and also occasionally in other tasks such as light gaming and even word processing.

    My specs are

    HP Pavilion p6319uk
    i5 650 @3.20ghz
    6GB DDR3
    640GB WD HDD
    GT230 1.5gb DDR2
    Windows 7 64 bit

I Hope you can help because its really annoying. I googled windows 7 stuttering problems but only got lots of articles about people having problems running games. I did notince the stuttering is the same as the kind i used to get with my old vaio notebook when the CPU would switch to save powrr and i would get a stutter then. Im owondering if thiis could be a similar thing.

. check for hardware acceleration, try turning it on (of off)
. review background processes - disabling what you don't need.

    cheers ...

    Sounds like a latency problem...
Use this tool to see if you have a latency problem:
    DPC Latency Checker (free).

This sounds very similar to a problem I had almost a year ago. I had sound stuttering issues every so often when playing music.

Using DPC Latency Checker along with GPU-Z, i found out that the latency spikes happen when my GPU downclocks due to Nvidia's Powermizer being enabled.

Once I disabled Powermizer, the stuttering was gone. Also, the newest Nvidia drivers (258.96) fixes this issue.

First, run DPC Latency Checker while running GPU-Z to confirm this. If so, download the latest Nvidia driver and/or Disable Powermizer using Powermizer Manager.

My DPC latency issues were related to my wifi card.

latency is really only an issue if he is listening/watching streaming audio/video.

He mentioned IE, but also said light gaming and word processing. Not sure this is latency.

To the OP, please clarify what you are listening to/watching when it occurs
