The other night, I closed the lid on my laptop and then reopened it quickly to look at something I forgot - I saw on the screen "preparing to hibernate" and I shut the lid again.

Now, when I open the lid, there is no activity. I powered it off and back on and it goes right back to the same screen. There is just a "toshiba" logo and "intel" logo. The computer seems to be stuck in hibernate?

The only thing I am able to do is after powering back on, quickly hold "F2" or "F12". When I do, holding F2 will say "now entering setup, please wait" and holding "F12" will say "now entering multiboot selection menu, please wait". In each case, I've waited and waited and waited....nothing.

I have tried removing the battery but it didn't help.

Anybody have any tips or ideas of how to get this thing going again? I can't even get to windows!

    Thanks

Wow. That's no good. So you can't get to a boot selection screen?

    I tried the battery thing....nothing.

And you are correct, I can't get to anything. It says "now entering setup-please wait" or "now entering boot selection-please wait" but there is no activity and i think i could wait forever to no avail.

It wouldn't be a big deal to wipe out the hard drive either so if that's what i have to do, how do i do it?

thanks for your quick replies, too.

Well, with not being able to boot from a CD because you can't access the boot menu, you'd have to take the HD out and attach it to another computer via an enclosure so you could format it.

You can't wipe if you can't boot from a CD.

    Send it to Technical Support.

    EDIT: Pixelot got there first.

Wait, we don't really know that the OP can't boot from a CD, do we?
Maybe it's configured to try booting from CD before the hard drive.
Have you tried it, Stringer47? Not the boot menu... just putting the disc in and powering up.

Just tried with the recovery CD...nothing - still the same screen. Thanks for all the input - let me know if there are any other ideas.
