so i have a problem that i hope one of you could help solve.

I have steam icon docked in the taskbar, as you can see by clicking the picture link below.

    Windows 7 Taskbar

as you can see by my poor paint skills, i have the steam icon already pinned but if i try click on it, it'll open up a new steam icon to the far right as if it's a new program separate of the one i originally pinned. ive tried unpinning/re-pinning to no avail.

is there any way i could fix this? i could try reinstalling steam and all (as long it doesn't require me to reinstall games or anything...) but i would like to see if anyone else knows.

    thanks!

    try unpinning an repinning it.

I just pinned steam to my taskbar (while I had steam closed) and loading from the pinned button down there worked fine.

you can unpin it by right clicking on the icon down on the taskbar and clicking "unpin from taskbar" You can repin it by finding the steam exe, right clicking on it again and selecting "pin to taskbar"

edit: though probably you can just unpin and repin while it's loaded it and it'll work.

sometimes the taskbar gets confused especially when you go from regular size to 640x480 and "disable themes" ...which it does whenever I load up starcraft.

If you crash starcraft everything that's pinned gets messed up on my computer (shows the wrong icon, I have to unpin and repin them all)

Does this happen when Steam is already running and you unpin the first one and pin the second one?

yep. so as you see in the image, i have 3 steam windows open. if i un-pin the first circled one, just so now i have the 3 steam instances open...then i try to pin that icon which includes the 3 running windows, it makes a new steam icon right next to it and it just like the original first circled icon i had.

ive tried numerous ways of pinning and unpinning but it seems to not work. any suggestions?

so it seems the issue has gone away, after numerous attempts at pinning and un-pinning, but now the "quit steam" option has disappeared from the hot menu when u rite click on the icon. i dont wanna risk un-pinning/pinning it again cuz i finally got it to work after god knows how many tries.

this is off-topic but i also selected to participate in the "beta update" for windows, what exactly does this do?

Automatically updates Steam to the latest development build so you can try it out and give feedback to the devs. If you've had that option selected this whole time it could be that it's a bug or if selecting to use the beta, then it partially fixed the problem.

ok well now it's working fine so im good haha.

umm this is an unrelated question to my original question but im trying to find a steam version of COD4 in the registry but i cant seem to find anything related to activision.

im trying to find the CDkey cuz im tried importing my old COD4 mpdata (it was from a retail COD4 disc) and obviously it didnt work since they had different CDkeys so im trying to do this hack :). if you know, any help is appreciated.
