    Vista doesn't start...I got error: 0xc0000034

    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc0000034
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information

    That doesn't work:
    - Startup repair (no problem detected)
    - System Restore from dvd (will said restore is succesful but will still get error and same restore option if I open it again like if I didn't restore to a previous point)

If I install windows from the dvd...do I will lose everything? Or if I will found my files (all in mydocuments and subfolder of mydocuments) in the folder windows.old that is supposed to be created? And will it work at less for sure to reinstall and save my files?

Before you do anything else, reboot with the VISTA DVD and choose the COMMAND PROMPT option

Within the command prompt box, type
    chkdsk /r
    <enter >

    Let it run

    Reboot as normal

F8 doesn't work...to go to safe mode or else...

I like to do a chkdsk /r from the command prompt when I start with the dvd but it ask:
"chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on the volume? (Y/N)

So far, I answered No because I don't want anything to become invalid...and I don't really understand what that all mean...(my first language is still French)
After it asked if I want to do chkdsk when I restart if I say Yes it will not do it because the error come up first!

Thanks for the help...I really will like to same my stock...

Go ahead and dismount---nothing will happen to your files--it just means that the Windows Repair utility has a file open and so chkdsk needs to release it.

What I think is happening: I think you have file system corruption. In many cases like yours, the Configuration Data file is not really missing or corrupted, but Windows is confused as to where it is.

Running chkdsk will correct problems with the file system so Windows can find the configuration data again

Hold on a second buddy, don't worry, the files are fine....just looking at the chkdsk report shows the drive is still probably physically ok

Now go back to the command prompt and type the following

    Bootrec /RebuildBcd
    (enter)

When it is complete, say Y for YES
    reboot

if it still does not work, go back the command prompt again and type

    Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    (enter)
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    (enter)
    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

You'll get a prompt asking you whether you want to "Add installation to boot list?" Answer "Y" (for yes again ), type exit, then hit shutdown or restart.

If THAT does not work, then you can do a Linux file recovery and Windows reinstall
