Was going to try to "Clean" my OS a bit having noticed it getting bogged down a bit too much.
Found something in the Startup page of the Sys Config Utility called "PowerReg Scheduler V3"

Search on the internet seems to say its adware? Wondering where it came from, what it is, should I delete it? how to delete (as it doesnt look like a simple uninstall from what I found on the net).

    Thanks for any help.

Go to www.antivirus.com and run their free online adware scan (should also run the free virus scan too)...it'll probably clean it right up...who knows how you got it though, unless you remember going to a shady site or clicking on a popup, it'd be tough to figure out...

If you got spyware on the system, you can try using Ad-Aware as it's free.

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/default.shtml.en

You can also try Microsoft Anti-Spyware utility which is also free
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

These utilities may help you in the removal process without costing you anything.

Below is a link that contains the locations of each file that needs to be removed.

According to the below link, they say that Spybot & Ad-Aware will remove this program. One of the users also made a small utility to help the removal from the registry. I can't guarantee this person's utility is safe, so try at your own risk.

    Good Luck!

First, you should try removing adware and spyware programs from the add/remove program function in the control panel. only when it is not listed there then you use 3rd party programs.

    Cheziyi,

Although that's a good start, doing this is not guaranteed to remove spyware/adware completely from the system. You're using the spyware's/adware's un-install program and I'm sure they'll leave a few things in the system.

    1. Goto Add/Remove Programs
    2. Use 3rd party software to make sure it's gone
    3. If all else fails, wipe the system and start from scratch

Right on, SpywareBlaster works very well.

Also, has anyone ever tried using a modified HOSTS file to block attacks/popups/etc? I do it on all my PCs, and it works very well!

Here is the link - just read the directions, and it is very easy to do.

The tea timer functionality in Spybot Search and Destroy is nice- nothing gets to edit the registry without your approval :)

i use adware and spybot to remove spyware, mcafee to clean viruses and trojans, spywareblaster to prevent spyware, google tool bar to block popups, and ccleaner to clean registry and useless files.

This can be annoy as well if it poping up a lot which it sometimes does. If you wish to stay clear of spyware I would recommend a browser that is not Internet Explorer like Firefox or Opera.
