Sorting Files By TYpe with Vista

I liked to sort my files, pictures etc.. by type. For some reason Vista doesn't have the sort or group by file type option in the right click list of options. So you select more from the list and then go down the list and check the box. Ok. It then adds the option and you can sort and group your files by type. The problem is it only lasts about a week or less and then they are all back to being sorted by name and you have to go through all that crap again!

XP had the option in the right click menu anyway and it stayed that was unless you changed it. Is there some way of getting this to stay in the menu and to keep it from reverting back? I hate the way Vista sorts files!!

 

I have no problem with sorting by type. It stays as long as I don't change it.

What are we gonna do????????????? I am thinking that maybe if you un check one of the options that is already checked, then check the type box it might stay?

Its easy. This is what you have to do:

right click somewhere to bring up your sort by dialog, if you dont see by type as an option it should be the last choice on the menu that says "more" click that and a HUGE list of sorting options opens and choose to add "by type" next time you open the sort menu you will have by type as an option.

 

Hey Vicious its easy you need to read my OP. Thats what we did the problem is it won't stay that way!

Well its even worse now.......Use to it lasted for a week or so after changing it to sort the files by my preference. Now I can go in and change it or customize the picture folder for example....I like to sort my pics or actually group my pics by type...After changing it and going back and then re-opening the folder its already switched back to the default which I think is the pic folder is sorting by name.....

Anyway it sucks big time and I can't get it to stay no matter what I do in the customize this folder options it switches right back.............

Also anyone having any trouble getting the screen saver to keep working? I set mine and it works for a little while and then just stops coming up. I have to go back in and re-apply the screen saver settings to get it working again....Doesn't make any sense either to me???

 

I just fixed it for now on mine anyway.....Went to the above link and downloaded the reset folder view file and then ran it...Then went to control panel and folder view options...check the remember view box and then restarted my computer. Now the type is already there when you right click..so you can sort or group by type so I change my folders to view with large icons and sorted by type in documents and pictures... Closed the folder and now its still there.we'll see how long this lasts........
