I already deleted ctfmon.exe but it keep very slow!
YES I only have 3 (!!) programs on my startuo task manager...

disable ALL start up programs and if u need to use them u can start up when u want
    then disable the following services:
    Diagnostic Policy Service
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    IP Helper
Messenger Sharing Folders USN Journal Reader Service
    Network List Service
    Offline Files
    Print Spooler
    Readyboost
    Remote Access Connection
    Server
    Tablet PC Input Service
    Windows Error Reporting Service
    Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    Windows Time
    Cryptographic Services
IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules
    IPsec Policy Agent
    Network Location Awareness
    Program Compatibility Assistant
    Shell Hardware Detection

obviously if u need any of these services in particular e.g. readyboost leave it on

then do a full hard drive defrag

    run msconfig

and set timeout to 3 or if the lowest it will go is 5 seconds, choose that

then in the boot tab click no gui boot, then click advanced and select number of processors as 2 ( if u have dual core)

then go to start -> run and type netplwiz and uncheck user must type password to logon ( for your user account)

    hope this helped

disabling readyboot made my computer slow...and i dont even use readyboost. i leave it enabled...setting os timeout to 3 doesn't do anything unless you have more than 1 os...no gui boot doesnt really do anything either...
running apps from "run" isnt the cause of your slow startup...its something else. i run apps from run all the time

EDIT: Don't disable like 1/4 of jisaac's services...some of those are needed. o_O

who's to say he doesnt have more than 1 os since he hasn't posted any specs. i justed posted it on the off chance that he might be multibooting since it doesnt affect the computer negatively in any way and only takes a couple of secs. No gui boot has been shown to speed up boot by a few seconds maybe as low as 3, but there are no disadvantages to doing this so u might as well do it. Autologin should help but u must of modified your os with the commands on run. it may have created a registry error which is what will be making ur computer slow, use the following trial program and run registry cleaner followed by registry defrag.

You are assuming. Telling him to do autologin and disabling the services you listed can be dangerous and harmful. People like the security of typing their pw in at startup. When you tell him to disable services at least tell him the negative effects of them. Yes, some of those are completely safe to disable but some of those are needed by the average user...

and i said in my previous post:
he seems a bit noobish though and to be honest i cant be bothered to list what each service does. If he wants security he can forget the autologin thing, but whats wrong with assuming he's dual booting, as shortening timeout does not affect his computer in any way!

I don't suppose you could just perform a System Restore to correct this? But Arkit3kt hit it on the head...what exactly did you run?

You could also use Bootvis to perform a boot trace, which will show what is starting up and in what order.

...Lol. Shortenting timeout doesn't harm, but it won't shorten up his boot time if hes on 1 OS where most common users are. Besides ReadyBoost there are a couple of services on your list that shouldn't even be on there.

ttupa- bootvis only runs on xp and since we dont know if he runs vista or xp we cannot really advise him what to do. He needs to post what commands he used, his system specs inc. his os!
mcgrady ur right i probably shudnt have included network list service etc.... and perhaps print spooler, but this is why as i said to ttupa we need to know his system specs lol

You know - I was a tweaking fool and was using guidance from the Vista Tweaks thread and blackviper.com. Things were moving along really well, then something slowed down - big time. I ran the services .BAT file that puts all of your services back to default state and bingo, 1 minute+ was taken off my startup time. So I turned something off that I apparently needed. BUT, I am not running any more services now than I was before I turned off a bunch. Interesting, Vista is deciding what I need to run for me.

My point is that you can go too far and the number of services in "default" settings might have nothing to do with a problem - you might need to actually turn services ON given your individual needs/environment.

    YMMV!

Without any tweak (except cutting down few start up programs) my start up time is well within a minute.

What do you mean with "more than 1 os"?
I did what Jisaac said and did I notice that the XP (!) starts quite faster BUT... you guys should have a look to the performance of my CPU. On the windows task manager the USAGE CPU is almost always 100%. There must be some kind of a programme or virus or something using all the 400 mb ram of my 1.4Mhz packard bell...

From one of the things that Jisaac said to disable is making my wireless not performing 100% as it was because it seems something is constantly checking network services...

Still waiting for the disk defragmentation but I think it's not going to help :'(
    thanks again

    for wireless re-enable:
    Network List Service
    Network Location Awareness

and as I also said download:
    http://www.tuneup-software.co.uk/download/
after installed click on maintain windows and then 1-click maintenance, then run registry cleaner

afterwards click on free up disk space and double click the suggest items for cleanup.

then go to solve problems and run tune up disk doctor

finally click on increase performance and do a drive defrag. After and only after the drive defrag has finished close all windows (except tune up utilities) click on registry defrag and wait for it to finish. It will prompt you for a reboot and click ok. This should resolve any problems.

tell me how it works :)

I'm installed the Xp and everything not even one month ago. This only happened after I (stupiddly) run some commands and restarted the computer...

After Isaac tips the laptop e going a bit faster than it was but not 100% yet...

    Thanks a lot Isaac.

    No problem mikas,

and in response to mcgrady, it is unlikely to be a virus considering the problems started after he typed some commands into run/cmd.
