    Originally, did the laptop come preinstalled with Windows XP or Windows Vista. If Windows XP came preinstalled and HP has no option for Vista then its a good bet that the ACPI isn't working correctly, which does happen with Vista on a laptop that was designed for XP.

    If it did come with Vista, then you are in luck I guess. When did the problem start occurring? Was it after a driver install or a new program? If that is the case, removing those drivers/programs might solve that problem. You might also benefit from downloading the Vista Reliability Pack which contains hotfixes that fixes many issues with Vista.

    Links to hotfixes:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

    If removing the offending drivers/software does not solve the problem, click on that Check for Solution button and maybe a solution is available.

    The laptop is made for Vista Home Premium. I haven't messed with the OS.

    I just got the laptop yesterday, and it has always rebooted when the lid was closed, even before I removed the bloatware and updated the drivers and such.

    I'll try the hotfixes tomorrow I guess. Thanks for the links.

    Hi,

    I could imagine it might be a problem with the display drivers. have you tried another version, if available?

    Other steps to try would be:
    * Update drivers
    * Check for BIOS updates
    * Contact HP
    * Do a system recovery (through recovery CDs or recovery partition)
