I'm getting tired of waiting longer for my notebook to load because windows messenger keeps autostarting. I have tried stopping it from autostarting with a startup manager with no luck (it works but will start auto starting again as soon as the programme is used) so i am forced to uninstall messenger out of annoyance.

Is there an alternative to Windows Messenger that i can still use all the same contacts for?

You can turn the autostart off inside messenger in the options menu- 'start messenger when windows starts' and it won't load up with the OS.

Did you change the Messenger options? You can disable autostart from within the program.

Looks like otakuoverlord beat me by a few seconds. ;)

Miranda is the most configurable IM client out there. The whole variety of available options might be daunting for the new user, but once you get the hang of it, you won't ever have to install the official MSN client again.

Trillian works for me.... it has much cleaner interface but you have to purchase it for the PRO version (w/webcam)

Yeah Miranda is very nice. Blazing fast as well; I use it on my 8 year old 350mhz comp cause msn 7 is so slow on it.

I like using Live Messenger, just small little features such as not having 'Bwen Says:' after every message and instead having it compact into a whole paragraph.
With Windows Messenger you could go into the options and turn off the startup options or even go into msconfig and disable the startup there.
