I'm getting a new laptop for the first time in years.

Unfortunately, my usual enthusiasm is curbed by a) Microsoft forcing Windows 10 for all Coffee Lake and Ryzen systems, which could be worked around if not for b) The OEMs being uncharacteristically submissive to the point where there's no drivers for Windows 7/8.1.

That said, should I just install Windows 10 LTSB to at least spare myself from the semiannual headaches?

I've been running Windows 10 Enterprise for over a year now - not a single issue. I don't see a reason for all the drama and worry.

The reason there is no W7 or W8 driver is they no longer support them from the manufacture and MS has no reason to support outdated and no more Windows Updated updates for them. So your asking something that will never happen. I installed Windows 10x64 Pro FCU 1709 and updated and have no issues. So unless you can document and show errors no one is going to know what is happening there.

you have no choice but to use Windows 10 on new laptops. I tried installing Windows 7 on my MSI GT73VR Titan Pro and that was a very bad attempt. i installed all the drivers, even got a lot of Windows 7 specific ones like the LAN/WLAN/Bluetooth/Video card but after all was done, I would get random errors here and there and crashes and mind you I didn't even use Windows Update to have the telemetry updates installed, I just used the Simplex Updates pack which only installs the safe updates but still no joy
so my advice is just install whichever version of Windows 10 you want then use O&O ShutUp 10 to stop all the privacy invasion stuff

The program is incredibly straightforward. You can easily figure out how to tailor it to your needs on your own.

Here's my configuration file, you can load it, I have disabled the OS Sync and what not so if you're using a Micro$h4ft account to login (which I hope you aren't) then uncheck those relevant boxes. I've also disabled biometrical features since I don't have a fingerprint scanner so if you do, make sure you uncheck that as well :
