    I am using a Samsung Series 5 550P7C with Windows 8

When the labtop is unplugged and using the battery, the screen would flicker/flash when displaying certain page/window/image on certain brightness. The flash goes away when I dim the display. What is causing that.
Everything is fine when it is plugged.

I don't have a solution, but I can move this to the samsung subforum if you'd like. Maybe you'll get more replies there.

All I can think of is that it could be a grounding issue, I've seen some flickering cause by that before, but the fact that it only flickers at certain brightness settings makes me believe that the problem doesn't lie simply with a grounding issue.

    Hi okashi,

Any news on that problem? I got exactly the same issue with the same laptop when unplugged. I figured it out that it happens for certain (intense) colors when they occupy large portion of the screen. In win 8 when I press windows button for the metro menu that is deep blue. I also tested with enlarging red square in photoshop - when it gets too big it starts to flicker (seriously).
My guess is that there may be a problem with power output from battery. Some colors may require more energy then others (you wrote that turning up the brightness triggered it for you - same thing - more energy needed).

Anyway, did you figure a way to fix it?

p.s. Funny thing that Samsung mentions screen flickering in their manual:
    http://www.manualowl.com/m/Samsung/NP550P7C/Manual/402196?page=9
    http://screencast.com/t/uir8GpDa0

They say that it can happen when you use not original power adapter. This is clearly not the case here, but it is power related.
It sounds to me like unstable power input may cause this flickering.

The same thing happens on my work laptop, a Dell Latitude running Windows 7. I don't know if it has a Samsung screen or not, and while I'd be willing to disassemble it to find out if it were my own machine, I'm not going to do that on my work laptop. Dell has historically used Samsung screens for some of their laptops, though, so it's certainly plausible.

It mainly happens when viewing bright, white-ish pages. I haven't noticed it not happening when the screen is dim, but I don't usually have the screen at minimum brightness. External displays are fine when it's on battery - it's just the laptop's own screen that does this. I haven't seen it while it's plugged in, either.

It's a pretty minor annoyance to me, but still a negative point for this laptop. I have not found a solution to it.

I hadn't watched the video before, so I should clarify that it's not nearly that bad in the Dell I use. It gets a little bit brighter and dimmer, but still well within the usable range.

I think it's being emphasized in the video by the video framerate and the screen refresh rate coming in and out of phase with each other.
