    Hi All --

I posted this in the Lenovo forum, but was unable to get an answer.

I just followed many of the great threads about optimizing my laptop and I must admit that the old thing is screaming as much as a 4 or 5 year old laptop can (I have a T61p on order right now).

Anywho, everything seems to running great, except the confirmation sounds that you get when you click on button (i.e. when emptying the recycle bin). The sound is normal, but at the end of the sound is a scratchy click. It's no big deal, but it was not making these types of sound before I optimized.

Any idea what could be causing this and what I should do about it? I used the search function under "lenovo scratchy sound" and got 388 threads, but I could not find what I was looking for in them.

I updated the soundmax drivers, but that had no effect.

    Thanks,
    rb

Where's the sound coming from? Are you sure it's from the speakers? Try turning on the volume really loud and get it to make the sound again. I would think that it's the HD starting to go and not an actual sound.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am sure that the sound comes from the speakers, because it only happens when I click on something and the confirmation sound (i.e. crumbling paper for the trash can or the short click sound that is made when you press on the next page button on the internet) is heard. The sound does not occur intermittently or randomly or rhythmically. It's just a short extra scratch/click at the end of the normal sound.

How about resetting the file in sound properties?

Maybe the sound clip got messed up somehow? I don't really know if it really is just a sound. I think it's something you'll probably have to put up with. Nothing during the optimization process should have caused this, but I guess it did. What did you do to optimize your laptop?

Edit: My bet is on the ZaZ's advice. Follow his advice first.
