    Hi,
I have come across heavily corrupted windows systems that wont boot.

I would find it great if it was possible to back up vista and windows 7 activation certificates using a boot cd such as bart pe.

Does anyone know if it is possible to back up these activation certificates using a boot cd.

    Happy Christmas

If you bought a notebook with Windows 7 already on it, it will most likely have a pre-activated key, and every notebook of the same make/model will have an identical key that will only work on that notebook, so you could ask somebody to use NBR and email you the files.

Or just use the key from the bottom of the notebook, sometimes under the battery, unless you have upgraded an older version of Windows.

    Hi John,
I thought each activation key was unique.

From your experience how generic are the pre activation keys?
I find that alot of times a 1 year old laptop with normal wear will have parts of the product key worn off, so the activation key is the only chance of a reinstall without purchasing a new licence key.

I heard that it`s not limited to a specific model , but can be an the entire rage from one manufacture all using the same pre-activated key, though i am not certain of this.

If you find somebody with the exact model you have, their key will be identical to yours.

But the key on the bottom of the notebook is unique to every notebook.

The key has to match something in the bios called the SLIC or the key will not work, I am not an expert at this as you can probably tell.
