It appears everytime I resume from Sleep or Hibernate, my laptop(3810TZ) freezes up and I have to do a cold restart to get it going again. Which kills the point of using sleep/hibernate.

It's occured ever since I got the notebook(though not as much then), and even with the latest BIOs, drivers, etc. it still hasn't helped. I haven't had time to replicate and test out why since I'm still in school and the semester ends early December. I also don't have much installed, pretty much the Acer drivers from their site, CCleaner, Defraggler, Open Office, Windows Live Messenger, Chrome, Avira. Pretty much a simple setup for my needs for school, so hopefully it isn't software related. Using Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

    Anyone have similar problems?

sleep/hibernate/resume problems are generally device driver problems.

Occasionally, a user will have screwed with the power control settings of the hardware (via control panel|device manager) so that the device power status is uncontrollable by windows. Individual hardware settings in device manager are SEPARATE items from the overall system power plan.

    Soooooo

    a) leave ALL of your hardware settings set up so that windows can control the power status of the individual hardware

    b) make sure that your device drivers are all up to date

I actually think it is the Microsoft mouse or microsoft keyboard I have attached to my docking station.

I downloaded the intellipoint and intellitype software and still the issues. driving me nuts.

the sleep/wakeup problem is not the issue, it is definitely something with undocking. odd thing is even if I unplug the mouse and keyboard, thing still becomes totally unresponsive about 10 secs after logging in.....EVERY TIME I undock.

Would you recommend I go back to default power settings? I have made a few tweeks to the screen/sleep times and such.

I am almost certain it is the microsoft mouse and keyboard. i just can't figure out how to fix it... I seem to remember I once had a problem when I got drivers off their website, I recall going back to an older driver and no problems. thing is I don't know if I can do that with Windows 7, not to mention I don't think I have the CDs that came with the products anymore.

If I finally figure this out, I will get back. Thanks for the suggestions...

Well, when something isn't working as expected or designed, one of the first steps is to take your system back to the manufacturers defaults.

Once there, make sure that things work as expected, then fold in your personal changes, testing all the while, until you get to a point where things stop working. At that point you will know what the cause of a problem might be.

    'Shotgun' troubleshooting rarely works.

i install alot of programs , like i say while i am organizing my music library i use about 3 programs ( tag runner + mp3 tag + magic file renamer ) so i install them 1 time i can't keep installing 1 program at a time, my shotgun trouble shooting is re installing windows again i am sooo used to it since XP days , i even memorize what i should backup from the C: like bookmarks and contacts , and what i should install immediately :D
